Mayor Francis Zamora said the city government partnered with San Miguel Corporation for the one-day installation event after city residents requested to have an Autosweep RFID installation in the city.

“I personally asked SMC to have this event to help out not just San Juanenos to have an easier access to the RFID stickers, but to help SMC and the LGUs affected in the traffic jams caused by the implementation of the new RFID policy at the expressways,” Zamora said.

The installation was made available on a first-come, first-served basis for 2,000 cars.

The Autosweep RFID can be used to enter South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), STAR, and Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway (TPLEX).

Residents who availed of Autosweep RFID stickers were asked to present their proof of residency, completed application form downloaded from the Autosweep website, and P200 payment for the  transaction.

During the installation, two queueing lanes for cars were opened to accommodate all 2,000 vehicles, with one started from M. Paterno Street to Pinaglabanan then to Museo ng Katipunan, and the other from N. Domingo to Pinaglabanan to Museo ng Katipunan.

“Itong ginagawa nating ito ay konting tulong sa mga San Juaneño para hindi na sila pumunta pa sa ibang lugar (What we are doing is to San Juaneños so that they do not have to go elsewhere),” Zamora said.

“This is a service that we’re giving to our people, lalo na at alam ko po na konting panahon na lang at magbubukas na ‘yung Skyway na magko-connect ng NLEX at SLEX na meron pong entry at exit point dito mismo sa Araneta Avenue sa San Juan (especially that the Skyway that will connect NLEX and SLEX will soon open, with an entry and exit point right here on Araneta Avenue in San Juan),” he added.

Last month, the city government launched a drive-thru installation of EasyTrip RFIDs for 1,000 vehicles.
