The 10-megavolt ampere (10 MVA) substation of the power utility, owned by magnate Enrique Razon Jr. of Prime Strategic Holdings Inc., was recently unveiled at the Iloilo Business Park, the township of Megaworld Corp. in Mandurriao district.

“The 10 MVA mobile substation is not only a behemoth power-provider on wheels, it is also the answer to the ever-present danger of overloading of the Mandurriao substation,” said Razon in a virtual message.

It was part of MORE Power’s five-year upgrading plan of distribution facilities that it took over from Panay Electric Co. (PECO) after the latter lost its government franchise as a power utility of Iloilo City.

Since taking over, MORE Power saw the need to augment the existing power substation in Mandurriao district as usage reached critical levels, which was anywhere around 90 to 95 percent.

Mandurriao is where many malls and new businesses in the city are located, including the 72-hectare township of Megaworld.

With the additional 10-MVA mobile substation, the Mandurriao substation is expected to perform at a safer 70 percent capacity.

“This, indeed, is a considerable investment on the part of MORE Power, but it is an investment needed to enable the utility to adapt to new challenges and maintain its system resiliency and reliability,” added Razon.

Meanwhile, MORE Power will also embark on the expansion of power substations in other districts of the city.
