US polls, COVID among most searched topics in Google here in 2020


The 2020 United States elections and coronavirus were among the most searched topics in the Philippines this year, Google revealed in its “Year in Search 2020.”

According to the search engine, “US elections 2020” topped the overall trending searched for the Philippines, followed by the keywords “NBA score,” “coronavirus,” “DepEd Commons,” and “Taal Volcano.”

The US elections 2020 also topped the list for most searched news topics in the Philippines followed by "coronavirus" and "Taal Volcano."

Also in the Top 5 of most searched news topics were “first day of school” and “www.reliefagad.ph,” which was the website where Filipinos could register for cash aid from the Department of Social welfare and Development (DSWD).

Meanwhile, Google said Filipinos were most interested in learning how to make dalgona coffee this year.

Another food related search that made it to the top “How To” topics was “How to make leche flan?” at No. 5.

Health-related searches like “How to wear a surgical mask?”, “How to compute BMI (body mass index)?”, and “How to boost immune system?” were also among the top searches in the “How To” topic, placing second, third, and fourth in the list, respectively.

Google said the list of top searches was curated “based on search terms that had the highest spike this year as compared to the previous year.”

Globally, the top most searched topic was coronavirus, followed by “election results,” “Kobe Bryant,” “Zoom,” and “IPL.”
