Davao region's COVID cases breach 10,000-mark


DAVAO CITY - The number of reported cases of coronavirus disease in Davao region has surpassed the 10,000-mark.

On Tuesday night, the DOH Davao Center for Health Development reported 63 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of cases to 10,090. The region's record of COVID-19 cases breached the 10,000-mark on Monday, December 7 after 104 COVID-19 cases were recorded.

Based on the COVID-19 Regional Case Bulletin dated December 8, the total number of active cases is at 2,646, with Davao City having the most number of active cases with 2,216, and Davao Occidental with the least number of six active cases.

Davao City has so far recorded a total of 7,158 cases. The Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) COVID statistics as of December 7 showed that the ward beds allotted for COVID-19 patients of the SPMC was 91.23% occupied with 312 out of the total 342 beds utilized.

Its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds allotted for COVID-19 patients were 93.33% occupied with 28 beds out of the total 30 beds utilized.

DOH data also showed that the number of recoveries reported on Tuesday was 58, bringing the total number of reported recoveries to 7,050.

The DOH said among those who were discharged were 41 patients from Davao City, seven from Davao del Sur, five from Davao del Norte, three from Davao de Oro, and two from Davao Oriental.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths have increased to 394 after four deaths were reported on Tuesday. Two of the fatalities were from Davao City, while the other two were from Davao del Norte.
