New COVID-19 cases recorded in hospital personnel in Calapan City

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The city government of Calapan yesterday reported 15 new positive cases of COVID-19, seven of whom are personnel of a government hospital.

City Mayor Arnan C. Panaligan, in his daily COVID-19 bulletin, said the seven COVID-19 cases are staff of the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital who were infected due to their close contact with co-employees who earlier tested positive for COVID-19.

A 23-year old rescuer of the City Public Safety Department and 34-year old crew of Starlite Ferry that ply the Batangas-Mindoro sea route are also among the new COVID-19 positive cases in the latest report, Panaligan said.

“It is our personal responsibility to stop the spread of the virus by observing personal discipline and complying with the health and safety protocols such as the wearing of face masks, social distancing, and personal hygiene. The government has not been remiss in its duty of informing and regularly reminding the public about this pandemic,” Panaligan said. He also observed that virus transmission was prevalent inside houses after unregulated mass gatherings, family occasions, and other similar indoor activities.

“The police cannot just make arrests inside the residences. That is prohibited by law. So. it is the personal responsibility of each individual to do what is necessary under the present situation,” the mayor said.

On Monday, Panaligan signed an agreement with the Police Regional Office-MIMAROPA headed by Brig. Gen.Pascual G. Munoz, for the inclusion of all police personnel in the regional headquarters in the City Health Card Program.

Records at the city health office showed that the city has 77 active cases and a total of 657 cases, 571 recoveries, and nine deaths.
