TACLOBAN CITY - An eight-year-old boy remains unconscious after he was accidentally shot in the head by a playmate with an improvised gun, locally known as “boga”, in Ormoc City on Thursday, December 3.
Police reports disclosed that Ormoc City Police Station 1 received a call from the barangay chairman of Barangay Hugpa, informing the police that a shooting incident transpired in the barangay, which involved minors.
According to an initial investigation, the victim and his friends were swimming at the Panalian River when another playmate, a 16-year-old, arrived with the “boga”, laid down the weapon by the river bank, and joined them for a swim.
The boy reportedly used the “boga” in hunting for birds in the area.
It was while they were swimming when another playmate, a 13-year-old boy, took the “boga” and tinkered with it.
But the improvised gun suddenly went off, hitting the victim on the right side of the head.
The victim was immediately brought to the OSPA Farmers Medical Center for immediate medical attention.
The 13-year-old boy and the “boga” were immediately turned over by barangay officials to the police.
The minor suspect has been turned over to the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
