Remulla cautions against Christmas parties, mass gatherings

The provincial government of Cavite on Wednesday (Dec. 2) warned the public against joining  mass gatherings, such as Christmas parties, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In an advisory released Wednesday morning, Gov. Jonvic Remulla said while the daily infection rate is declining in Cavite, a second wave of COVID-19 infection is still possible.

"Bawal pa rin yang mga beso beso, sayaw-sayaw, party-party, fiesta mentality, boodle fights. Lalong-lalo na ang pakikipagkamayan sa mga tao (Greeting a person with a kiss on the cheek, dancing, parties, fiesta mentality, and boodle fights are still prohibited. Handshakes are also not allowed)," the governor said.

"As 2021 nears, nararamdaman ko pong malapit na matapos ang kalbaryo nating lahat. Nasa ating kakayahan, disiplina at control ang pagpigil sa paglaganap ng pandemya (I can feel the end of our suffering.  Stopping the spread of the pandemic depends on our ability, discipline, and control)," Remulla added.

Metro Manila mayors have agreed to ban Christmas parties and caroling to prevent a spike in virus infections during the holidays.

The Department of Health (DOH) likewise warned the public against holding Christmas parties which are reportedly superspreader events.
