DAVAO CITY -- Mayor Sara Z. Duterte admitted that Dabawenyos are now experiencing pandemic fatigue, which may have been the reason why some of them no longer believed in the dangers posed by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“Since March hangtud karon dunay gina ingon nga COVID fatigue, ananng wala sila’y kaila natakdan o namatay sa COVID (Since March until now, there is an experience called COVID-19 fatigue this because they do not have any acquaintances who were infected or died due to the said virus),” Duterte said in her radio program at Davao City Disaster Radio.

The mayor said this was why there are more individuals, who are now taking the risk of joining events and gathering where the virus could spread.

Duterte said to address the gap, the city along with other national government agencies will intensify its ‘Stay Home’ campaign, especially in the barangay level.

“We will encourage them to stay home and stay online,” he said.

She said the city government will distribute information materials regarding the danger of the virus specifically to those who have existing illness that might be trigerred by COVID-19.

Duterte said target of the campaign will be the coastal barangays from Bucana to Agdao district, especially in its interior parts where there were many reported cases of non-compliance with health protocols.

“Very recently, ni-commit si Sir William Gatchalian to give us facemask and face shield. Very useful kay pwede ni iapil nato kay naghatag tag face mask sa mga dalan (Very recently, Sir William Gatchalian committed to give us face mask and face shield. This is very useful because we can include this in our campaign since we already gave facemasks in the streets),” he said.
