P300 M allocated for Quezon province as typhoon assistance

The government has allocated around P300 million to help facilitate the rehabilitation of Quezon province following the devastation caused by recent typhoons.

According to Presidential spokesman Harry Roque, the government has augmented the local calamity funds of Quezon to assist in its rebuilding efforts.

The Palace official visited the province Thursday after the recent typhoons reportedly left a damage in agriculture and infrastructure estimated at P3 billion.

"In excess of 300 million po ang matatanggap ng probinsiya ng Quezon in terms of augmentation funds from the national government (The province of Quezon will receive in excess of P300 million in terms of augmentation funds from the national government)," Roque said during a televised press briefing in Quezon.

Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado said the government initially provided P225,742,463 to augment the calamity funds of Quezon after the onslaught of typhoons Quinta and Rolly. The resources were sourced from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund, he said during the same virtual press conference.

The province will receive an additional P74,955,486 in calamity funds after the devastating impact of typhoon Ulysses, according to Avisado.

President Duterte earlier approved the release of an additional P1.5 billion to boost the calamity funds of local government units affected by Ulysses this month. At least 1.5 billion was earlier released to LGUs, including those in Calabarzon, MIMAROPA and Bicol region, severely hit by recent typhoons.

The entire Luzon has already been placed under a state of calamity in the wake of the recent typhoons that battered the island. The calamity declaration directs concerned agencies to hasten the relief and rehabilitation work, allows local government units to access quick response funds, and imposes a temporary price freeze on basic commodities.
