Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Thursday afternoon signed Ordinance No. 8701, authorizing the allocation of P49.8 million to distribute as financial aid to workers under a job order contract, contract of service or those under other similar schemes of the city government.

According to the ordinance, the financial assistance will be granted “to help ease the financial burden brought about by the economic downturn due to the COVID-19 crisis.”

The ordinance was also passed “in view of the continuing rise of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the serious threat to the health, safety, security and lives of our countrymen, the long-term adverse effects on their means of livelihood, and the severe disruption of economic activities.”

“Presidential proclamations enjoined all government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to render full assistance to and cooperation with each other and mobilize the necessary resources to undertake critical, urgent and appropriate disaster response aid and measures in a timely manner to curtail and eliminate the threat of COVID-19,” the ordinance read.

The budget will be sourced from various Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) accounts under the 2020 Executive Budget to grant the financial assistance.
