Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo is taking the lead to help fight illiteracy in the country by helping them in reading and comprehension.

On Instagram, Mateo said that she is taking part in the National Reading Month with USAID and the Asia Foundation.

"We really need to integrate a strong reading comprehension skill among our students in their foundational ages (kinder to grade school). Reading is the pillar of literacy and after all, knowledge is and always will be power," Mateo said.

Her full post:

"As an advocate of education, it is my pride and honor to be part of DepEd’s celebration of the National Reading Month together with USAID and The Asia Foundation.

"It’s been awhile since I last had my lecture and it’s so refreshing to have a storytelling session using my local dialect, Hiligaynon.
