Increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Tuguegarao alarms Cagayan governor

CAGAYAN – Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba has expressed alarmed over the increasing number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Tuguegarao City.

According to Mamba, the local transmission of the coronavirus has been quite disturbing in the aftermath of the widespread flooding that was caused by typhoon Ulysses that displaced thousands of residents in the province.

The Cagayan Provincial Information Office (CPIO) reported Sunday that 15 residents of Tuguegarao tested positive for COVID-19 on November 20, bringing the number of active cases to 133.

Of the 133 active cases, 62 are on home quarantine.

Mamba also noted that most of the new victims were found to have been infected at home.

The official said there was really a need for those in home quarantine to be transferred to the isolation area.

Mamba suggested to Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano that he put the city under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) or, if necessary, implement enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to prevent the continuing increase in the number of COVID-19 positives in the city.

CPIO confirmed that there were  477 confirmed cases in Tuguegarao, and five have died due to Covid-19.
