VP Leni ‘overwhelmed’ by the generosity of Filipinos

Vice President Leni Robredo commended the Filipino people for their “overwhelming generosity” to extend help to those who are in need and expressed her gratitude to those who have been providing assistance - through donations of food and supplies - to families and communities that were severely affected by the recent typhoons that hit the country.

“Overwhelmed by the generosity of our fellow Filipinos,” Robredo said in a Twitter post on Friday. “At a time of great need, we all come together to help those who need help the most,” she added.

Robredo shared that since the Office of the Vice President (OVP) started accepting donations for those who were affected by typhoons “Rolly” and “Ulysses,” help from so many individuals, groups and other organizations have been pouring in.

“Long line of vehicles again, outside our office, of people wanting to contribute what they can to ease the burden of the typhoon victims,” Robredo said.

In previous Facebook posts, Robredo has been giving updates on the donations received by the OVP. “Here's a glimpse of people dropping off their donations at the office today,” she said in one of her posts along with a video showing a long queue of cars in her office located in Quezon City.

“Sa haba ng pila ng sasakyan, nagmukha nang drive-thru, may mga dumating rin kahit gabi na (Because of the long queue of cars, it looked like a drive-thru, some even arrived at night),” Robredo said. Seeing the numbers of donors, she thanked those who continue to help the affected communities. “Malaking bagay po para sa ating mga kababayan (This is a very big help to our fellowmen),” she added.

Robredo said that the OVP has been “getting so many messages from people who want to contribute” to its relief efforts. Details for in-kind donations are listed on her official Facebook page.

While the OVP does not accept cash donations, Robredo said that they have a partner organization that can be tapped by those who wish to donate money. As of Nov. 20, Robredo said that its partner organization, the Kaya Natin! Movement, has received P55 million to help communities that were ravaged by the recent typhoons.

“I am always in awe of the spirit of bayanihan of our kababayans because there are so many people who really wish to help,” Robredo said in a recent television interview. “We have been doing our best to be very transparent about it,” she ended.
