The Department of Social Welfare and Development said Saturday that their family food packs are fit for consumption.
DSWD spokersperson Irene Dumlao said that they are ensuring that the family food packs given to the families affected by typhoon “Ulysses” and previous disasters are in "good condition" and are “culturally sensitive.”
"Tinitiyak ng DSWD, particularly duon sa ating National Resource Operations Center, na fit for consumption itong mga family food packs na pinapamahagi natin and that these are culturally sensitive,” she said during the “Laging Handa” briefing.

According to the DSWD official, they are conducting regular inventory at the NROC and the warehouses of the field offices to ensure that the relief goods are “in good condition.”
“Itong bigas which is supplied by the NFA, when we pack it para sa mga food packs, vacuum sealed po' yan at tinititiyak po na nasa maayos na kalagayan,” Dumlao said.

In 2014, the DSWD, under the leadership of Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman, drew flak after the Commission on Audit (CoA) bared that 7,527 family food packs amounting to P2.784 million for victims of typhoon “Yolanda” were spoiled due to improper handling.
Dumlao said the DSWD continuously provides augmentation support to the local government units to enable them to respond to the needs of their constituents affected by Ulysses and other calamities.
She said so far, the agency has provided P77-million worth of assistance to the affected regions – National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
