Director Jose Javier Reyes once again praised the quality and variety of Korean dramas in comparison to Philippine teleseryes, delving deep into the concepts that make each drama “unique.”
In a Facebook post, Direk Joey lauded the different social issues that are tackled in Korean dramas.
He cited the Suzy Bae and Nam JooHyuk starrer Start-Up for its focus on starting businesses. He also gave a shout out to It’s Okay Not To Be Okay for tackling the sensitive issue of mental health.
Lee Dong Wook’sLife, he said was about health care and business while Itaewon Class was about maintaining dignity and the value of having ambition.
Direk Joey did not leave out JTBC’s high society drama Sky Castle and Park Bo Gum and Park So Dam’s recent drama Record of Youth from his brief, but meaningful analysis.

This was not the first time the award winning scriptwriter and director expressed admiration about the quality of Korean dramas and films.
It can be recalled that in a series of blogs, the director delved deep into Kdrama’s appeal and why Filipinos are so invested in them.
