Ozamis prelate calls to set aside politics and work together for calamity relief efforts

With the devastation brought about by the recent typhoons, a Catholic prelate has called on Filipinos including the country's political leaders to unite and set aside politics especially during this time.

This recent undated handout photo received from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on November 14, 2020 shows coast guard personnel evacuating residents from their flooded home in Cagayan province, north of Manila, days after Typhoon Vamco hit parts of the country bringing heavy rain and flooding. "Let us set aside politics, our political affiliation and convictions," Ozamis Archbishop Martin Jumoad told Radio Veritas, Wednesday.

"What is important we have to unite and work together because we are all Filipino and those who are suffering are our brothers and sisters,” he added.

The prelate also asked the people to stop blaming one another.

"We have to stop blaming one another," said Jumoad.

"Well, we have to recognize that there are lapses but then if you focus on the lapses then we cannot move on because we continue to blame one another,” he added.

Jumoad's statement comes a day after President Duterte accused Vice President Leni Robredo of lying to the public when the latter supposedly questioned his whereabouts during Typhoon Ulysses which she already denied.

The President also asked Robredo not to compete with him even saying that she has done “nothing but make calls.”
