These comments from strangers might just be what you need right now

How scrolling through the comments section restored my faith in humanity

I stumbled upon the comments section of a post online. No, it’s not on Facebook, where comments sections are often riddled with bickering buffoons trying to prove their opinion is better than everyone else. No, it’s not on Twitter, where convoluted threads often feel contrived. Neither is it on Instagram where comments are often left to the most used emojis.

I stumbled upon the comments section of a post on YouTube. It’s not one of those videos that get at least a million views, although it did have hundreds of thousands. It’s not one of those videos that share the latest gossip over a celebrity or the latest K-pop idols or the latest gadget out there.

It’s a video for helping people sleep. One night, while waiting for my phone’s OS to finish updating to 14.2, I decided to check YouTube for “sleep music,” thinking I would find one of those perpetually streaming lo-fi music videos. There was that, sure. But there were also a bunch of other posts. I started clicking one and then another. While listening to the calming music of one of these videos, and still waiting for my phone’s OS to update to 14.2, I found myself scrolling through the comments section.

There, I was caught unprepared.

I found some of the nicest and most poignant words strangers have ever exchanged with one another. Let me share some of these comments here.

Right now, there are people all over the world who are just like you. They're either lonely, they're missing somebody, they're depressed, they're hurt, they're scarred from the past, they're having personal issues no one knows about, they have secrets you wouldn't believe. They wish, they dream and they hope. And right now, they are sitting here reading these words, and I'm writing this for you so you don't feel alone anymore. Always remember, don't be depressed about the past, don't worry about the future, and just focus on today. If today's not so great don't worry! Tomorrow's a new chance. If you are reading this, be sure to share this around to make others feel better. Have a nice day
