Amid the sweltering heat, the Muntinlupa City Fire Station distributed free “ice tubig” (ice water) to people and motorists on April 25.

The innovative program called “Labanan ang Init, Sa Bumbero Lumapit” was launched by the Bureau of Fire Protection-Muntinlupa headed by Fire Supt. Rowena Gollod to help people dealt with the extreme heat.

“High temperatures and excessive sweating can result in dehydration, causing the body to lose more fluids leading to exhaustion and various heat-related illnesses, some of which can be life-threatening,” according to the BFP Muntinlupa.

The Muntinlupa City Fire Station has established “ice tubig” desks at the following locations:

• South Station Alabang

• Alabang Viaduct Terminal

• East Service Road

• West Service Road

• Biazon Road, Brgy. Poblacion

“Our foremost priority in launching this program is the health of our community. The iced water distributed has been prepared with meticulous care to ensure it is free from any contamination,” BFP-Muntinlupa assured the public.

According to the Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management, as of 2 p.m. on April 25, the heat index in the city has reached 40 degrees Celsius or extreme caution level.

Heat index “is a measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body's ability to cool itself,” according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
