Aspiring artists in Davao offering artworks in exchange for donations to typhoon victims

DAVAO CITY – Aspiring artists here are using their artworks to gather donations for the victims of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses, which caused catastrophic damage in parts of Luzon.

Mary Joy Therese B. Saludo, a second-year college student from the Asian International School Aeronautics & Technology (AISAT) Davao, told The Manila Bulletin that she and her colleagues started commissioning art work for donations.

Saludo and her friends are accepting P50-donations for every chibi (people or animals) artwork, and P200 for human sketches.

“There are two options: (a) they can donate to any donation drives for the typhoon victims, send a screenshot photo to my Facebook as their proof, and photo reference of their desired chibi or sketch; and (b) send their donations to me and the photo reference of the artwork,” Saludo said.

Saludo said their artworks could be commissioned by messaging her on her Facebook account, and all donors will be given proofs of donation.

“I do not have much money to donate for the typhoon victims neither could I use all my funds every time we see another donation drive. Thus, I and my colleagues decided to make a campaign through our artworks. We can make art for them in exchange for helping those in need,” Saludo said.

Iris Aaliyah B. Layague, also a college student at AISAT-Davao, also has the same campaign with Saludo. She said that she had also offered sketch commission in exchange for donations for the typhoon victims.

She can be reached through her Instagram and Twitter account.
