DFA tally on COVID-19 abroad: 6 cases, 2 recoveries, 1 death


The Department of Foreign Affairs  (DFA) on Monday reported one new fatality, six new confirmed cases and 2 new recoveries from COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) among our Filipinos abroad.

In its latest bulletin, the DFA said the new confirmed cases and new recoveries were recorded in Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East and Africa.

Since the outbreak started in February this year, the DFA has recorded a total of 11,528 cases of COVID-19 infections among overseas Filipinos. 

From the total, 7,463 have recovered, 3,234 are undergoing treatment and 831 died of the disease.

The DFA, together with its Foreign Service Posts, continues to partner with host governments to ensure the safety and well-being of Filipino nationals abroad amid the pandemic.

On the repatriation of overseas Filipinos affected by the pandemic, the foreign affairs office will welcome today, Nov. 16, 2020, two chartered flights from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Dili, Timor-Leste with around 370 stranded and distressed individuals from the two countries. 

Last week, the department has brought home 8,831 overseas Filipinos, bringing the total number of repatriated overseas Filipinos to 254,785 covering the nearly nine months under pandemic. 

More than 87% or 7,715 of this week’s repatriates arrived from the Middle East. 611 OFs meanwhile came home from Asia-Pacific, 503 from Europe, and 2 from the Americas.

More than 90,000 more Filipinos are expected to be repatriated before the end of the year.
