Cordillera also in Ulysses’ path: roads closed, power off


BAGUIO CITY - Office of the Civil Defense (OCD-CAR) Dir. Albert Mogul said that the region is experiencing the effects of Typhoon Ulysses.

Currently light to moderate rains with gusty winds are falling in the Cordillera Region. The provinces of Benguet, Ifugao and Mountain Province are still under typhoon signal No. 2,  while Abra and Kalinga are under signal No. 1.

Some six fallen tree incidents, 2 landslides and 4 flooding incidents have been reported in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

There are 26 roads currently closed to traffic in CAR due to TY "Ulysses". Meanwhile, in seven roads, only one lane is passable due to soil collapse. All other national roads in the CAR are open to traffic or one-lane passable.

Mogul also added that a total of one-hundred eighty-seven (187) families with six hundred twelve (612) persons are affected in seven (7) barangays due to the tail-end of a cold front enhanced by TY “Ulysses”.

There were a total of 11 families composed of 47 persons staying in the evacuation area in Calanasan. Most families opted to stay with relatives instead of going to the evacuation centers. There are 173 families comprised of 559 individuals outside of evacuation centers

A total of 41 power interruptions were recorded in the region in the past 24 hours.  In four of these areas, power had been restored as of presstime. 

The 8 gates in Ambuklao Dam are open at 0.6 meters, while 6 gates in Binga Dam are also open at 0.4. meters.
