The boxing icon is static to join the roster of immortalized superstars
With so many achievements under his belt, it seems Filipino boxing icon, eight division world champion title holder Manny Pacquiao has no plans of stopping to get world records. Madame Tussauds Hong Kong has announced that Pacman will be the first Filipino male personality to have his own wax figure.
In an interview with the company, the 41-year-old boxing icon says that he couldn’t believe that he is having his wax figure made. “I am happy to be chosen as the first Filipino male to have a wax figure in Hong Kong. When they told me about it, I said yes and grabbed the opportunity,” he says. “This brings honor to all Filipinos, not only Pinoys can see it but also the tourists from different parts of the world.”
Pacman also shares his experience working with the company's creative team and admits that he was surprised to discover the tedious process behind every wax figure. “It was a very long process. It took six hours because they had to measure every part of my face and my body,” he says. “Everything is so detailed but the team made it very fun. They are friendly, so I was at ease the whole time.”
Due to the pandemic, the physical event to launch Pacman’s figure is put on hold. He is, however, still looking forward to the day where everyone can all freely travel again so he can personally see his wax figure in Hong Kong.
“Madame Tussauds Hong Kong makes wax figures of cultural icons, superstars, celebrities. Being a cultural icon itself is a different way of representing my country, the Philippines,” Pacquiao says. “Physical distance won’t stop me from joining you in this momentous moment. To have my own wax figure is such an honor and pleasure. I am thrilled to be in the distinguished company of Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, and other stars. I look forward to the day when I can visit the tourist attraction, take photos with my wax figure.”
He also gives thanks to all his fans for their warm support.
“I would like to let you know that I deeply appreciate all your efforts in recognizing my contribution in the field of sports,” Pacman says. “My desire is to be an inspiration not just to the Filipino people but to everyone across the globe. To everyone who continues to pursue their dreams regardless of challenges and obstacles let us all together keep dreaming bigger dreams. With God, all things are possible.”
Manny is the third Pinoy with his own figure in the popular museum. The other two are Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
