Prison service campaign gets P1.5-M donations

The Simple Offering of Affection or S.O.A.P. campaign of the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service (PJPS) for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs)  has already raised P1.5 million worth of donations as of Oct. 30.

PJPS said they hope to reach their P2 million target on or before Nov. 8.
“Our S.O.A.P. campaign is on-going. It is our hope still to be able to reach 100 percent of our goal,” the group said in a Facebook post Thursday, Nov. 5.

“Please continue to help us by donating and promoting this campaign to your friends,” added PJPS.

Launched last month, the campaign aims to provide hygiene kits (bath and laundry soaps) to all PDLs at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City and in the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.

In a statement, the organization said this is to “help in the sanitation campaign against COVID-19.”

The group said a P150 donation can provide one PDL two long bars of laundry soap and two bath soaps.

“We are truly grateful for all those who have already donated to our S.O.A.P. campaign,” PJPS said.

“So now, we can distribute our hygiene kits to more than 50 percent of our target 33,000 PDL beneficiaries,” it added.
