DFA committed to protect welfare of Filipinos abroad


The government is committed to promote and protect the welfare of Filipinos abroad as the world continued to face the health threat of the new coronavirus disease.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) affirmed such commitment after receiving no updates on the coronavirus situation involving Filipinos abroad Sunday.

"On this first day of November, the DFA received no updates on confirmed COVID-19 cases, recoveries, and fatalities among our nationals abroad. Meanwhile, there are 6 new DOH IHR- (Department of Health-International Health Regulations) verified cases from Asia and the Pacific," the department said in a statement.

"The DFA remains fully committed to monitoring the situation of overseas Filipinos who are affected by the pandemic and remains steadfast in promoting and protecting their welfare," it added.

To date, the total confirmed coronavirus cases involving Filipinos abroad have reached 11,244. The death toll stood at 817 while the recoveries reached 7,279. Around 3,148 are undergoing treatment for the illness. 

Of the total COVID cases among Filipinos abroad, 7,380 have been reported in the Middle East/Africa. Around 4,542 have recovered, 2,306 are under treatment, and 532 died.

In the Asia Pacific region, 1,810 Filipinos have been infected with the illness with 1,291 recoveries and nine deaths. 

At least 1,238 COVID cases involving Filipinos were reported in Europe. At least 965 have recovered from the disease while 97 passed away.

The DFA also recorded 816 cases in the Americas with 481 recoveries and 179 deaths.
