Woman Power

Zonta Club of Makati Ayala holds induction of officers and new members in the pandemic

Dr. Mildred Vitangcol

When women of the world unite to rewrite history as her story, that’s a “beautiful day,” as Bono of U2 would say. That was exactly what happened on Sept. 17 when Zonta Club of Makati Ayala celebrated its 31st induction of officers and new members at the Manila Diamond Hotel. On that day, Dr. Mildred Vitangcol was also installed as the club president this biennium.

Zonta International, a global organization of women executives and professionals, is on a mission and that is to improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health, and professional status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. Also among its many objectives is the advancement of understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of members as well as the justice and universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It also seeks international unity “to foster high ethical standards, to implement service programs, and to provide mutual support and fellowship for members who serve their communities, their nations, and the world.”

These goals are all the more noble in this pandemic, when jobs, work, businesses, and livelihoods have been disrupted on a massive scale in every corner of the planet.

We have no doubt that Mildred and the other newly installed officers and members of the Zonta Club of Makati will work together with Zonta International to achieve the goals of empowerment, understanding, goodwill, and justice, particularly in the interest of women, in these troubled times.
