Road clearing operations resume Nov. 16

The Department of Interior and Local Government said Wednesday that road clearing operations that were temporarily suspended last March due to the COVID-19 pandemic will resume starting Nov. 16 until Dec. 15, 2021 in varying degrees depending on the quarantine status of a particular area.

In the “Laging Handa” news briefing, DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said that areas under the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) will have to fully implement the road clearing operation as ordered by the President.

In places under the general community quarantine, Malaya explained that partial road clearing operations will be enforced while this will remain suspended in areas under the stricter enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

President Duterte, during his July 22, 2019 State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA), ordered the DILG to lead the road clearing operations that will allow the government to reclaim all public properties used for private purposes.

Malaya said that DILG Secretary Eduardo Año has already issued a memorandum compelling all local government units (LGUs) to comply with the road clearing operation order of the President.

The President issued the order to at least ease the worsening traffic situation in Metro Manila and all the traffic-prone areas in the country.
