Hundreds of individuals were stranded in various port terminals in the country as vessels and rolling cargoes were prevented from traveling due to typhoon Quinta Monday, the Philippine Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard Command Center has recorded a total of 605 passengers, including truck drivers, and cargo helpers; 20 vessels; 12 motor bancas; and 472 rolling cargoes were stranded in Southern Tagalog, Bicol, Western Visayas, and Palawan as of Monday afternoon.
Most of the stranded passengers were monitored in ports in Southern Tagalog where 419 individuals, 15 vessels, 10 motor bancas, and 409 rolling cargoes were stranded while 80 vessels and 50 motor bancas took shelter in some parts of the region.
The stranded passengers and vessels in this region were recorded in ports of Batangas, Calapan, Roxas, Bulalacao, Lucena,
Cawit, Balanacan, Romblon, Carmen, Looc, Sta. Fe, Real, and Dinahican.
A total of 132 individuals, 47 rolling vessels, and one vessel were also prevented from traveling at the Arrastre Pier, Caticlan Jetty Port, Tabon Port, Dumaguit Port, and New Washington Port in Western Visayas.
Other stranded individuals and vessels were recorded in ports of Bacacay and Pilar in Bicol Region and PPC Port, El Nido Pier, Liminagcong Port, Coron Port, Balabac Pier, and Kalayaan Wharf in Palawan.
A total of 91 vessels and 67 motorbancas also took shelter in various areas in the regions as a precautionary measure against possible threats of the tropical depression.
“The PCG Command Center is on 24/7 monitoring to strictly implement guidelines on the movement of vessels during heavy weather,” the Coast Guard said.
“Meanwhile, Coast Guard Districts, Stations, and Sub-Stations across the country are on standby to respond to emergency situations, in coordination with local government units and disaster response teams,” it added.
