Rev. Fr. Douglas Badong, parochial vicar of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene (Quiapo Church) said that as  more churchgoers are allowed inside the church, “the faithful must always remember to observe the health protocols. The new normal in the celebration of the holy masses must be strictly observed, especially with the upcoming Simbang Gabi."

“At least, the people are getting used to the new normal in the celebration of the mass. Parishioners observe discipline when they go to church. We continue to prepare and observe the safety measures against COVID-19 as the observance of the Simbang Gabi nears,” Badong added.

The priest said churchgoers must always follow the health protocols despite the easing of restrictions to prevent the transmission of the virus. “They must always wear their face mask and face shield and observe physical distancing,” Badong said.

The government has allowed churches to increase seating capacity from  10 percent to 20 percent. The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) welcomed the development which will allow more people to attend the nine-day Simbang Gabi starting on Dec. 16.
