LEGAZPI CITY (PNA) – Immediately starting its groundworks as soon as typhoon Quinta exited Bicol, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Bicol has restored 25 percent of its transmission lines that also brought back power supply in portions of its service areas.
Nilda Somera, NGCP South Luzon spokesperson, said their technical crew has restored their 69 kilovolts (kV) Daraga-Legazpi and 69kV Daraga-Ligao lines on Monday, after the areas experienced an outage Sunday afternoon.
The restoration of the two transmission lines also brought electricity back in most parts of the Albay Power and Energy Corporation (APEC) consumer areas, Somera said.
Presently undergoing restoration works are the Naga-Libmanan 69kV Line that shut off at 5:46 p.m.; Naga-Lagonoy 69kV Line that shut down at 6:13 p.m.; Naga-Iriga 69 kV Line that shut off at 6:15 p.m.; and Naga-Tinambac 69kV Line that shut off at 8:18 p.m., all on Sunday.
All these transmission lines are supplying electricity to Camarines Sur Electric Cooperative (CSEC) in Camarines Sur.
Two more transmission lines undergoing restoration works were the Tiwi-Malinao-Tabaco 69kV Line that supplies power to the Albay Power and Electric Co. (APEC), and which was shut off at 5:59 p.m.; and Daraga-Sorsogon 69kV Line, that powers the Sorsogon Electric Cooperative (SEC), which shut down at 2:41 p.m.
“Please note that loss of power may be caused by affected transmission facilities of NGCP or distribution facilities of local distribution utilities or electric cooperatives. Specific cities and municipalities affected by the power interruptions are determined by concerned distribution utilities unless the outage affects the entire franchise area," Somero said.
“NGCP has mobilized line crews and is currently conducting aerial and ground patrols to assess the impact of the typhoon to expedite restoration of affected facilities,” he added.
Meanwhile, Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal called on barangay officials here to help in clearing electric lines with fallen twigs or trunks of trees felled by Quinta.
