Sarangani Governor Steve Solon said the provincial task force against COVID-19 will tap Malapatan Mayor Exodus Sumbo as resource person on COVID-19 awareness and prevention program after he recovered from the viral ailment following 23 days of hospitalization.

While under treatment at a local hospital in General Santos City, Sumbo underwent intubation procedure after he experienced difficulty in breathing.

Sumbo said he first experienced fever and was taken to the hospital where he was subjected to swab test which later showed he was positive for the coronavirus.

He said he felt scared and worried about his health condition while he was undergoing treatment at the hospital, and isolated from his family.

“I considered my recovery from the dreaded disease a second life,” Sumbo said.

The mayor was discharged from the hospital last October 23 after he was tested negative for the virus.

Had he followed the advice of medical experts to observe minimum health protocols, Sumbo said, he could have avoided being infected with the virus, which he could have contracted from infected people he had interacted with while doing public functions.
