4.8-magnitude quake hits Davao Occidental


BUTUAN CITY – A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit Davao Occidental province in Southern Mindanao region early Friday morning, October 23, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 4:10
a.m.

The epicenter was plotted 47 kilometers (kms) southeast of Don Marcelino town, Davao Occidental province.

The tremor had a depth of 139 kms, Phivolcs said.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and no aftershock or tsunami alert was raised by the state agency.

The regional office of the Southern Mindanao Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and Davao Oriental provincial disaster risk
reduction and management council (PDRRMC) there reported
no damage or injury.

Meanwhile, a mild 2.8-magnitude tectonic earthquake was also registered at 5:28 a.m., also October 23, and its epicenter traced only 14 kms southeast of San Miguel town, Surigao del Sur province, with a depth of 25 kms, Phivolcs also said, in its latest advisory.

No aftershock was raised by the state agency and the Surigao
del Sur PDRRMC also reported no damage or injury.
