SAF commandos trained in motorcycle-riding, as PRRD wants more cops to be riders

A total of 43 elite police commandos are now ready even for dangerous motorcycle chases with criminal elements after completing a motorcycle-riding course aimed at improving police response on motorcycle-riding criminals.

Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, director of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), said the part of the 45-day Motorcycle Riding Course (MCRC) conducted by his men for members of the Special Action Force (SAF) is target-shooting while riding the motorcycle.

“The completion of the training by the SAF participants is timely as it goes towards enabling more police personnel in tactical motorcycle riding,” said Tagum.

Last week, President Duterte said he wants more policemen to undergo motorcycle-riding training courses, saying it is an effective measure to run after criminals especially those using motorcycles to easily escape.

Despite various measures employed against motorcycle-riding criminals, motorcycles are still the common getaway of criminal elements.

Tagum said that more SAF batches would be trained by the HPG for motorcycle-riding in the coming days in compliance with Duterte’s order.

Next month, the HPG is expected to open two more classes that could accommodate more or less 100 policemen.

Aside from SAF commandos, Tagum said they are set to open motorcycle-riding courses to local police forces across the country.
