TPLEX delivers on 3-hour travel time from Manila to La Union

If you are a thalassophile like me, then you’ll love the newly completed Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), an 89.31 km expressway connecting Tarlac, Pangasinan, and La Union.

Whether you’re surfing in San Juan, or cliff-diving in Tangadan Falls in San Gabriel, or hanging by the kitchen bar of Flotsam & Jetsam, the completion of the last section from Pozorrubio in Pangasinan to Rosario in La Union this 2020 will make your travel more efficient by almost 50%.

There are three main sections in TPLEX. The first section is about 46 km from Tarlac City to Rosales, Pangasinan. The next 15 km traverses Rosales to Urdaneta. The last section is about 27 km — from Urdaneta to Rosario, La Union.

Today, we try the newly completed TPLEX using Mitsubishi’s Strada Athlete. The project claims to shorten travel time from Quezon City to La Union from 6 hours to only 3 1/2.

The TPLEX is part of the Luzon Spine Expressway Network, a 1,040 km expressway network which would connect the northern and southern most part of Luzon. By building a total of 18 expressways with a total road length of 655 km, Secretary Mark Villar aims to compliment the existing expressway network spanning 385 km.

We will put it to the test today — using this off-road 4x4 pick up truck from Mitsubishi.
