Malacañang said President Duterte is satisfied with how the ongoing rehabilitation for the war-torn city of Marawi is going but added that he wanted to be faster.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque made the statement as Marawi nears the third year of its liberation from the pro-ISIS terrorists who laid siege on the city from May 23 to October 23, 2017.
In his Monday presser, Roque said the President is satisfied with the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate Marawi City. However, he added that the President wishes for it to be hastened.
"Let's just say that we are satisfied but the President, of course, would appreciate if it could be hastened," he said.
The government has promised to complete the rehabilitation of Marawi by December 2021. According to Housing Secretary and Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) chief Eduardo del Rosario, the government will be able to meet its deadline.
"We can complete all the public infrastructure by the end of December 2021," Del Rosario told reporters in Marawi City over the weekend.
"We can finish 80 percent of the construction of all public infrastructures in nine months," he added.
Meanwhile, Roque said the Palace will meet with Del Rosario to address the complaints of the displaced residents who said they remain barred from their homes are have yet to receive compensation for their losses.
"We will confer po with Secretary Del Rosario on this matter," Roque said.
The Moro Consensus Group chair Drieza Lininding said that there was really nothing to commemorate but the pain and suffering they continue to experience even three years after the liberation of Marawi City.
"We don’t feel liberated at all, because after three years, we are still back to our homes and communities for no apparent reason as the search and retrieval of unexploded bombs and ordnance have already been completed," Lininding said.
