Ursabia chairs ReCAAP meeting



Coast Guard chief Admiral George V. Ursabia Jr. chaired the 14th Governing Council Meeting of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia Information Sharing Centre (ReCAAP ISC) last Oct. 13 and 15.

The event was attended by 20 council members across the world. 

The gathering was held virtually due to travel restrictions and border control measures amid the ongoing global health crisis. 

The council is composed of governors or representatives of the  ReCAAP contracting parties from Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Denmark, India, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam.

PCG Deputy Commandant for Operations Vice Admiral Leopoldo V. Laroya joined the meeting as the representative of the Philippines. 

The council reviewed the activities of the Centre in the 2019 fiscal year and deliberated on its activities for 2020 and 2021. 

The council commended the ReCAAP ISC for conducting its mission actively and producing positive results during the past year under its three pillars of mission, information sharing, capacity building, and cooperative arrangements.

The council also reviewed the implementation of the work plan and the budget for the 2020 fiscal year in the meeting.
