DPWH expedites construction of additional modular hospital at Lung Center

The Department of Public Works and Highways on Sunday said it is now fast tracking the construction of additional modular hospital inside the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) compound in Quezon City to augment the hospital's bed capacity for moderate to severe cases of COVID-19.

In a statement, Public Works and Highways Secretary and isolation czar Mark Villar said the additional modular hospital is aimed for November 2020 completion.

"Our goal to complete a fully-functional hospital facility, capable of accommodating severe cases of the virus, by early November," he said.

According to Usec. Emil K. Sadain, head of the DPWH Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of Local and National Health Facilities, the project covers the construction of eight rooms with two beds each or a total of 16 additional bed capacity.

"The additional 16-bed capacity offsite modular hospital will hopefully bring relief to LCP which is already overwhelmed with moderate to severe COVID-19 cases," he said.

The DPWH inspected the facility Saturday, October 17.

Present during the inspection at LCP compound are DPWH Task Force technical working group members namely Bureau of Design Director Aristarco Doroy; Bureau of Construction Director Eric Ayapana and Asst. Director Edgar Garces;  Project Director Virgilio C. Castillo of Unified Project Management Office-Roads Management Cluster 1 and Sadain.
