‘BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky’ documentary ranks first in 28 countries on Netflix


K-pop girl group BLACKPINK’s original documentary is the No. 1 most popular movie in 28 countries and regions, and emerged second overall in the world on Netflix.

“BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky,” directed by Caroline Suh, was released on Oct. 14 on Netflix and it showcases the rise to stardom of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa.

According to streaming analytics company FlixPatrol, “BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky” is the No. 1 top movie on Netflix on Oct. 15 in 28 out of 78 countries and regions.

It ranked first in the Philippines, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Honduras, Hong Kong, Chile, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lithuania, Malaysia, Morocco, Nicaragua, Oman, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

The K-pop documentary ranked second on Netflix in Bangladesh, Belgium, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Finland, France, Greece, Latvia, Lebanon, Portugal, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and Venezuela, and it ranked fifth in the US.

“BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky” ranked second in the top movies on Netflix in the world as of Oct. 15 behind Adam Sandler’s “Hubie Halloween,” which was released on Netflix on Oct. 7.

“Hubie Halloween” got 648 total points to rank first on FlixPatrol and it is the No. 1 movie in 24 countries and regions for the day. “BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky” received 631 total points to place second.

According to FlixPatrol, “Points for rankings are calculated based on the position in the chart” with 10 points awarded to a movie in the No. 1 position up to 1 point for the No. 10 position.
