4 new COVID-19 cases, 9 recoveries among Filipinos abroad, DFA reports


There were four new confirmed cases, nine new recoveries, and no new fatality from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad, the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a report on Friday, Oct. 16.

The new confirmed cases and new recoveries involving overseas Filipinos were recorded in Asia and the Pacific and Europe.

To date, the total number of overseas Filipinos infected with COVID-19 since the outbreak began in February is 11,145. 

Out of the total, 3,150 are undergoing treatment from various hospitals and health facilities worldwide, 7,184 have recovered and 811 died due to COVID-19.   

“The DFA personnel in our Foreign Service Posts remain steadfast in partnering with local health authorities and agencies to ensure the Filipinos' awareness and adherence to preventive measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, and commit to tirelessly attending to the needs of our people affected by this pandemic, whenever possible,” the DFA said in a statement. 

Meanwhile, the foreign affairs office disclosed that 356 more remains of OFWs in Saudi Arabia are awaiting repatriation; 86 are female and 270 male.

Of that number, 85 percent are from “non-Covid-related cases.”

The DFA said the remains were from the following regions in the Kingdom: Riyadh; Eastern; Central, and Northern Border.
