The Nacionalista Party, political party of former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, assured President Duterte Wednesday of its continued steadfast support in pursuing the administration’s legislative agenda notwithstanding the clash between the party and its allies in the majority bloc due to the recent speakership squabble.
In a statement issued by Las Pinas City Rep. Camille Villar, the NP also vowed to “work closely” with the new leadership in the House under Velasco.
Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco unseated Cayetano, NP secretary general, as speaker after Velasco refused to heed a 15-21 term sharing pact for the speakership that was brokered by Duterte last year.
“Amid the recent development in the House of Representatives, the Nacionalista Party remains steadfast in supporting the legislative agenda of the President as his government endeavors to bring solution to the problems of the country, especially now that we are in the middle of the pandemic,” said Villar, daughter of former Senate President Manuel Villar and Sen. Cynthia Villar, party president and chairperson, respectively.
“With a robust leadership backed by a pro-active Cabinet, we believe that the country is in a better position to rise from the challenges of this pandemic and ultimately, facilitate the delivery of the cure against COVID 19,” she stressed.
The young House member added: “We join President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in his unrelenting campaign to weed out corruption in government, which is stealing precious resources that should have gone directly to the people.”
The Las Pinas solon also assured Velasco and their colleagues in the House majority bloc that NP is committed “to the speedy passage of the 2021 national budget that would be truly reflective of the needs of the people and not merely based on the requirements of the districts.”
“The party nevertheless extends its collaborative hand to the new House leadership and vows to work closely with their team to ensure the success of the President’s legislative and economic agenda,” stated Villar.
