Sotto led Wednesday the ceremonial turnover of tablet computers for 3,500 students of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) and 70 laptops for its teaching and non-teaching personnel.

“Ang pera na inilaan natin para sa edukasyon, hindi po ‘yan gastos. Hindi po gastos ang bawat piso na ginagamit natin para sa edukasyon, para sa mga mag-aaral natin (The funds that have allocated for education were not put to waste. We did not waste every peso that we have used for education, for our students,” Sotto said during his speech.

“Hindi po ito gastos, bagkus ito po ay po investment natin sa susunod na henerasyon ng mga Pasigueño (This was not a waste of money, for this is our investment for the next generation of Pasigueños),” he added.

Despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic, the Department of education has pushed through with the implementation of the blended learning modality for this school year.

Under this new setup, students would not have to be physically present inside their classrooms to learn, but they would rather receive their lessons through printed modules, online learning, and other platforms.

In support of the distancing learning setup for this school year, the Pasig City government has procured about P1.3 billion worth of laptops and tablet computers for public school students and teachers in the city.

Sotto had earlier stressed that students must continue with their education amid the pandemic, and vowed to support the education sector in the city in order to adapt to this significant shift in the country’s education system.
