Unlocking the power to create anytime, anywhere

The ASUS ProArt StudioBook series experience as told by the creatives of the Manila Bulletin

Purpose-built technology has been the core of ASUS’ thrust in creating innovation that would suffice the real needs of consumers. Anchored on the observation that most content creators opt to use gaming PCs and laptops with specs that meet the demand of graphics-heavy workloads, ASUS decided to become among the first brands to roll out devices specifically designed for the creatives -- the ASUS ProArt StudioBook series.

Putting the ASUS ProArt StudioBook 15, ASUS ProArt StudioBook 17, and the ASUS ProArt StudioBook Pro 15 into the test, we let three members of the Manila Bulletin engaged in creative content production use the devices for a week. Here's what they have to say about them.

ASUS ProArt StudioBook 15

Poised as a portable yet capable device that allows users to unleash creativity anytime and anywhere, the ASUS ProArt StudioBook attributes its main selling point to its slim and sleek form factor that doesn’t compromise its powerful internals.

Clad in a durable magnesium alloy chassis, the ASUS ProArt StudioBook 15 has a slim 18.9 mm profile and weighs only 2kg.  Its Pantone-validated screen with 4K picture quality that delivers accurate color vividness and sharpness is planted on a 15.6-inch LED-backlit UHD NanoEdge display with 7.55mm-thin bezels, giving users a wide workspace in a screen-to-body ratio of 82%.

Such features are essential for professional layout artists like Jeffrey Soriano, the Manila Bulletin’s Assistant Supervisor for the Graphics Department.

"In the graphics and design profession, competition for clients and accounts is tight. If it was a battlefield, our hardware is our gun and our software is our ammunition. Though the user’s skill is still the number one factor, we can maximize our performance with the use of hardware and software that are top of the line," Soriano shares.

“Among the features of the ASUS ProArt StudioBook 15 I like is its Pantone-validated 4K screen. Part of our job in publishing is to make sure that the output printed on press is color accurate,” he adds.

With multitasking a common word linked to content creators, Soriano, notes that devices like the ASUS ProArt StudioBook 15 make productivity a seamless task. “Creative professionals would want to have a laptop of this specification. It is designed for people like us who need to create quality and quantity of pages in a short period of time.”

“It has been my habit of opening different software programs simultaneously. With this laptop’s extremely high RAM capacity, I can jump from one software to another without any slow-downs. The ProArt StudioBook 15 uses an Intel Core i7-9750H processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU which makes the experience worth recommending,” Soriano says.

ASUS ProArt StudioBook 17

With videos a widely-used medium to express creativity nowadays, the ASUS ProArt StudioBook 17 is a timely offering for content creators. Considered as the world's slimmest laptop to carry a combination of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU and an Intel Core i7 processor, the ASUS ProArt StudioBook 17 is a graphics powerhouse.

The ASUS ProArt StudioBook 17 is also among the brand’s line of laptops that are ISV-certified, which means that it's optimized to smoothly run professional software like Adobe, Autodesk, and the likes. Along with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU, the ASUS ProArt StudioBook 17 comes with a built-in RTX Studio, a feature that Rochwald Figueroa, a member of the Manila Bulletin's video team for three years commended.

“As a video editor, our workflow is heavily dependent on the hardware and the software of the devices we used. I have been an Adobe user for years now, and what I really appreciate about the ASUS ProArt StudioBook 17 is its RTX Studio feature. It delivered well in video playbacks, especially on our 4K footages. It makes the turnover of videos a flawless process that is very useful in doing rush projects,” Figueroa shares.

Just like the ASUS ProArt StudioBook 15, the ASUS ProArt StudioBook 17 also flaunts a Pantone-validated screen in a 17-inch NanoEdge WUXGA panel in 1920 x 1200 resolution that showcases unprecedented color precision.

“Color accuracy is very crucial for content creators especially when the projects that we're doing are to be shown on bigger screens. Other laptops in the market mostly have screens that produce colors that are either too cool or too warm, and this makes proper color grading difficult,” Figueroa mentions. “I like that this laptop has a big screen that's enough for me to work seamlessly on crucial timelines and project previews. It's as if you're carrying a very powerful desktop wherever you go."

Much like video editing, animating is a tedious task that requires not only keen attention to detail but more importantly, a competent device with top-notch performance. The ASUS Pro Art StudioBook Pro 15 lives up to what it’s made for, all thanks to its sets of specs including the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 Max-Q graphics, a dual-storage design with support for up to 48GB of memory and up to 2TB of PCIe SSD, and an Intel Core i7 processor which all work together for efficient 3D rendering.

Apart from its impressive internals, ASUS has equipped the ProArt StudioBook Pro 15 with advanced cooling technology which helps in handling demanding software.

“I’m currently using the latest version of Blender software for animation since it is the updated version it has a lot of upgrades which my PC can’t handle, but the ProArt StudioBook made it easy for me to use it,” shares Christian Carl Quides, an animator and a video editor of the Manila Bulletin.

“The render time is lesser and the 4K feature of it made the character modeling and sculpting much easier and applying atmospheric lightings are much more appealing because of the 4K resolution. The ProArt StudioBook Pro 15 also doesn’t lag even in some complicated stages of animation light hair simulation, texturing, and especially in rigging,” he adds.

Asked about whether he would recommend the ASUS ProArt StudioBook Pro 15 to his fellow creatives, he notes that “even if you’re an amateur or a professional animator, this laptop can be your best friend.”
