Lovi Poe, Winwyn Marquez and Tom Rodriguez on the challenges of working under ‘new normal’

Most of the country is now slowly going back to their old routines despite the many hassles given to the so-called new normal. Among those braving the situation are some of the country’s more popular stars, including Lovi Poe, Winwyn Marquez and Tom Rodriguez.

The trio are busy with GMA-7’s upcoming “I can See You: High Rise lovers” and during a recent interview, they shared why they decided to resume work amid the pandemic.

Each gave a different answer.

For Poe, work is something she just can’t resist.

“I was just looking forward to going back to work right from the beginning curious on how things will be handled,” she said.

She didn’t worry at all with her possibly catching the dreaded virus.

“Buo ang tiwala ko sa production sa team kasi even before sa mga production namin sa GMA-7, safety comes first so, no, it wasn’t a hard decision. Yes, I was a little scared because of the situation but I was also very excited to work, to see my friends, to see my co stars...”

She added, “And entertainment helps a lot of people most especially now given the current setting so I’m happy that GMA-7 was able to come up with new material and I’m proud to be part of it.”

Marquez, on her part, intoned, “I wanted to work because I really miss acting, I really miss working in front of the cameras. First love namin ito e, it’s what we do and I’m just glad to have received the call.”

Meanwhile, Rodriguez didn’t mince his words in admitting he took on his role in the show because of money.

“Pera, pera talaga,” he said with a smile, noting he is just being pragmatic about it all.

“It’s a necessity e, practical lang tayo, these are uncertain times after all,” he said, before adding, “Pero yun nga it also fulfills yung creative purpose din. I miss the craft.  I love what we do. Actually, it is what we have been doing din naman online for the past few months. Entertaining a lot of people whether we get paid or not. So ito, it’s a welcome thing, a necessary gamble.”

The three related their biggest concern diving into work.

Poe said, “Ang sa akin, it’s more of the physical aspect in executing scenes. Kasi as part of the new protocol, hindi masyadong nakakapaghawakan like, kung sa scene asawa mo yung kausap mo, you can’t touch, and you have to think of new ways to communicate that. Emotionally we got there, the physical aspect medyo challenging.”

It worked for Marquez, though.

“Dahil may limitations kami, we tried to be more creative about it,” she said. “Ang ginawa namin sa series e parang may participation yung audience in the sense na they have to imagine what comes next or what is actually happening without us having to actually execute it like usual so I think it will make things more exciting for them.”

Rodriguez shared, “It’s like finding another path kung saan hindi pa pulido yung dadaluyan. We’re treading that and were finding new ways, discovering new things relating to the craft. So, if ever bumalik tayo sa dati or kung tuloy tuloy na ito well, at least, I could say na may baon na kami. Alam na namin ang gagawin. It is challenging but I think we were able to get over that hurdle in creative ways.”

“I can See You: High Rise lovers” starts airing Oct. 12 on GMA-7.
