Delivery services to help in Cebu City’s campaign against COVID-19

CEBU CITY – This city’s different delivery services will be tapped in the city’s campaign against the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Representatives of Grab, Food Panda, Lalamove and Angkas on Saturday attended a consultation meeting with officials of the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and contact tracing team.

“We discussed the different health protocols to ensure the safety not just its customers but the drivers as well,” said City Councilor and EOC head Joel Garganera.

Garganera said it was agreed upon during the meeting that the delivery services will put up posters or stickers bearing health reminders.
When out for delivery, drivers will also remind their customers of the various health protocols.

The delivery services were also asked to have their own health infectious preventive control officers for easier coordination and contact tracing.
Garganera said the possibility of requiring the drivers to undergo swab testing was also tackled.

The swab testing will be free of charge, said Garganera.

“Of the total positive patients for the month of September, the contact tracing team observed that five positive cases had history of availing of delivery services.

“However, it was noted that this did not automatically mean that the delivery services were the source of transmission, but that this could only be a probability. That’s why EOC has to be proactive and meet with the delivery service sector in order to further improve their health protocols and services,” said Garganera.

Another round of meeting was scheduled with police and traffic officials in which safety and security operations of the delivery services will be discussed, said Garganera.
