According to the PGC, Candidate Coast Guardswoman (CCGM) Lhea Diño was on her way home on Sept. 30 when she found a brown envelope containing P135,000 on the street.

“Nung una kong nakita yung pera, ninerbiyos po ako kasi ang laking halaga nito. Naisip ko baka pang-emergency ito. Baka may pasiyente sa ospital yung may-ari na nangangailangan talaga,” she said.

(When I first saw the cash, I got anxious because it was such a huge amount. I thought it was, perhaps, for some emergency, that maybe there was a hospital patient somewhere who needed that money.)

Diño picked up the said envelope and immediately returned to the PCG headquarters at the Port Area in Manila even after her duty to report the incident and to begin the search for its owner.

Twenty minutes later, a civilian man went to the headquarters to claim the lost money. The said owner works as field operations assistant for a cargo and freight company at the Port Area. He said the money will be used for the operations of the company.

(The civilian was extremely grateful for the actions of CCGM Diño and other Coast Guard personnel who kept the money safe. We salute you, CCGM Diño! You proved that the PCG is a family of disciplined and reliable Filipinos.)
