Mercedes-Benz unveils the new GLA


A synergy of car and SUV qualities

Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off its new GLA compact SUV. The new GLA was designed to combine the best of compact cars and SUVs, embodying the perfect synergy of the former’s beauty with the latter’s robust off-road elements.

The new GLA is taller, offers a more commanding view of the road ahead, and incorporates more sporty elements. Offered as a GLA 200 AMG Line, it comes with a diamond radiator grille with chrome pins. It rolls on 19-inch five twin-spoke light-alloy wheels. It sports a black roof liner and polished aluminum roof rails.

More space

Inside, the new GLA gives offers more space for passengers and to store items. It's upholstered with a new generation multifunction sports steering wheel in Nappa leather. The seating position for both the driver and the front passenger is higher and more upright. The rear seat backrest is 40:20:40 split, with each section folding down individually. This allows better space management for cargo loading and gives passengers a more configurable seating position for greater overall comfort.

Loading items behind is easier with a low boot sill. Its luggage compartment height can be adjusted in two stages, thanks to a continuous luggage compartment floor console.

Smart connectivity

The GLA makes staying connected convenient and safe. It is equipped with Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system with a seven-inch instrument and media display. It also comes with an intelligent voice assistant which is activated with the code word, "Hey Mercedes".  Smartphones can be connected through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto fitted as standard with support for major applications and apps including navigation.

The system can also be controlled with the touchscreen, a touchpad on the center console, or touch control buttons on the steering wheel.

Impressive performance

The GLA is always ready for what’s around the corner. From a tight corner of the city, to a tight corner of a back road, the new GLA is agile and easy to maneuver. Turbo power and a solid stance make it quick on its feet and confident in your hands.

Propelling the GLA 200 AMG is a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 163 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. It comes paired with a 7G dual-clutch automatic transmission with cruise control driving the front wheels. It comes with performance profiles such as ”ECO”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, and Individual. It also has an ECO Start/Stop system that automatically shuts off the engine when you're at stoplights or idling which can be disabled if desired.

Top notch safety

Naturally, the GLA also comes with driving assistance systems with cooperative driver support. It’s packed with systems like Active Brake Assist, Attention Assist, a Light and Sight Package, Parking Package with Active Parking Assist and reversing camera, Tire Pressure Loss Warning System, besides the standard set of ABS, traction and stability control, and airbags.
