Angono mayor contracts COVID-19

ANGONO, Rizal – Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon has confirmed that she tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

This she said in her message on Facebook live on Wednesday night (September 30) and now confined in a hospital.

Calderon said she started feeling weak, had headache, and a 40-degree fever on Saturday night (September 26) resulting in her hospital confinement since then.

Her swab tests, taken twice since Monday, both turned out positive according to the mayor.

“Alam nyo ang pinakamahirap, mag-isa ako dito. Gusto ko nang umuwi. (What is most difficult is that I am alone here. I want to go home),” Calderon said while wiping away her tears.

She said she has all the symptoms for coronavirus such as high fever, sore throat, loss of appetite, and headache that is why she has to be confined in the hospital.

The mayor said she was not aware where she might have gotten the virus since she used to be very busy going from one community to another. She urged her constituents to be careful by following health protocols.

She also thanked those who have been praying for her recovery and hoped that there would be no more addition to the number of COVID-19 patients.

She also called the attention of her father, Vice Mayor Gerardo Calderon, to be the acting mayor of the municipality.

The municipal government’s chief of staff, Alan Maniaol, told Manila Bulletin that they are now conducting contact tracing.

The regular Friday afternoon disinfection of the municipal hall will push through and offices will be in normal operation according to Maniaol.

As of September 30, the municipal government recorded 69 active cases and 399 recoveries out of the total of 485 confirmed cases in the municipality.

The town and the rest of the province of Rizal remain under Modified General Community Quarantine until October 31.
