Army sergeant killed, two soldiers wounded in armed scuffle inside PMA compound

A staff sergeant was killed, while two others, including the gunman, were wounded in a shooting incident on Tuesday inside the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) at its Fort Del Pilar compound in Baguio City.

According to initial reports, Airman Second Class Christopher Lim had a heated argument with Philippine Air Force (PAF) Staff Sgt. Vicencio Raton and Army Staff Sergeant Joefrey Turqueza at around 4:30 p.m.

At the height of the verbal spat, Lim reportedly took an M-16 rifle from the second floor barracks of the PMA and fired at Raton and Turqueza.

Turqueza was reportedly killed on-the-spot, while Raton, despite reeling from a gunshot wound, was able to hold down Lim in a scuffle, and shoot the assailant.

The soldiers were later brought to the PMA hospital, and later on, to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center where Turqueza was declared dead.
