DFA COVID-19 tally: 5 new cases, 1 fatality

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday reported five new confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases, one new fatality and no new recovery among Filipinos abroad.

In its weekend report, the DFA said they received a report from Africa confirming the new cases and the lone fatality.

To date, the total number of confirmed cases is at 10,438; total fatalities at 791; and total recoveries at 6,654.

“The DFA remains fully committed to monitoring the situation of overseas Filipinos who are affected by the pandemic and remains steadfast in promoting and protecting their welfare,” the foreign affairs office said.

On the government’s repatriation program amid the pandemic, a total of 317 displaced and distressed Filipinos were repatriated on Saturday onboard a turnaround DFA-chartered PAL flight from Beirut.

This is the 5th DFA-chartered repatriation flight from Lebanon since June, 2020 and the 50th chartered flight since the DFA began its repatriation efforts in February 2020.

A total of 2,596 Filipinos in Lebanon have already been repatriated by the DFA since December 2019.
