School nurse in Bukidnon tests positive for COVID-19


DAVAO CITY - A 64-year-old female nurse of the Department of Education in Malaybalay City in Bukidnon province has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a statement on Friday, Malaybalay Vice Mayor Dr. Policarpo P. Murillo, incident commander of the Emergency Operations and Command Center (EOCC) of Valencia City , said the DepEd nurse was a resident in Barangay Sumpong, Malaybalay City, and was a "known hypertensive and diabetic, controlled by medication."

"She commutes by bus to her station in Mailag Elementary School, Mailag, Valencia City," Murillo added.

Based on their investigation, the school nurse experienced "general body malaise" on September 11, and reported to school on September 15. "Later in the afternoon, (the) patient went home as she experienced fever," Murillo said. 

She was admitted to a private hospital in Malaybalay City on September 21 and her test result was released on September 24. Murillo said the patient is now confined at Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center (BPMC). 

"Those who have been identified to have had close contact with the patient from Valencia City have already been admitted to the city's Isolation Facility for further investigation and tests," Murillo said. 

He added that all teachers who have had close contact with the patient were already "under signs and symptoms review considering that 14 days have already elapsed since the exposure." 

As of September 25, Valencia City has recorded a total of 62 confirmed COVID-19 cases with seven active cases remaining. The city has also recorded 55 recoveries and no fatality.
