Cebu town to distribute 20,000 free face masks

CEBU CITY—The municipal government of Liloan town in northern Cebu will be distributing free face masks starting Friday, September 25.

At least 20,000 facemasks will be distributed through the “Liloan Mobile Mask Patrol” which will go around the town’s barangay to ensure that the mandatory wearing of facemask will be followed.

“Our Liloan Mobile Mask Patrol will go around all barangays of Liloan everyday as we intensify our drive for all Liloanons to wear masks in our continuing fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic,” said town mayor Christina Frasco.

Despite repeated reminders, Frasco observed that some Liloan residents are still not wearing masks when in public.

“While our imposition of community service and filing of cases against violators persist, we are also adopting an incentivized approach to the new normal in the hopes of building community support for the wearing of masks that can help us immensely to safeguard the public against the virus,” said Frasco.

Aside from face masks, the mobile patrol will also be giving cereal drinks.

The town has recorded a total of 338 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of September 23 with 16 active cases, 295 recoveries, and 27 deaths.
